  • Michael in Stephenville.  We just got off the telephone with Lorena, and she sounds wonderful!!!!  Initially, she was crying pretty hard, and we were never able to ascertain exactly why once again, whether it was because of pain, sadness, frustration, excitement...  The girls asked her not to cry, and I just told her I love her.  Either because she wanted to please the girls or because she found it amusing to distress me with her crying, she started laughing.  Actually, her laughter was wonderful!!!!

I have read the "Don't Quit" poem to her several times, and she cries quietly each time.  I know that she is inspired by it, and its message is so quintessentially Lorena anyway.  She is getting better, but this will be a very difficult week.  March 9 is the second anniversary of Lorena's stroke.  March 2 is the anniversary of Mamá's death -- and it is the day that Stephanie will "die" in the mock drunk driving accident.  They are actually having a CareFlite land at the school at the accident scene to take on of the kids to the hospital.

Some updates.  I saw Susan Hutchins yesterday.  She said that Duane is hanging in there, and Susan is obviously having a tough time, but she is a tough woman.

    Take care...

  • They did that mock drunk driving thing when I was in high school...it was very realistic and kind of scary! I hope things are going alright for you. That's so good that Lorena was laughing, laughter always makes everything better!!!!! Have a fabulous day!! : )

  • Michael,

I am so glad that the poem has meant so much to everyone.

  • Wow.  Lots of emotional anniversary and hard stuff coming up.  I will keep you all in my prayers.  For years in the fall I would get very anxious when it was warm and sunny and the trees were at thier peak, cuz that is the time that Alisha was diagnosed with her cancer and almost died.  Very hard times for me each fall for quite a while.  She stopped breathing one Christmas Eve also, and was in the hospital with a trach in for six weeks. I dreaded Christmas for years afterwards.  I still have a hard time with the decorations and fesitvities.  I hope someday to be able to enjoy it again.

I hope the MAAD simulation impacts the kids and ultimately saves lives.

  • i will always include you on my prayers :) hoping lorena will get better and better each day...

tc and God bless you always :)
